Figaro chain features flattened links that aren’t uniform in size. Typically, it consists of two or three shorter links separated by one elongated oval link. It’s available in a variety of sizes, thicknesses and styles – such as the diamond cut, which leaves a visible sparkle that captures the light. Figaro chains are often worn by men and can be personalised with crosses, pendants or medallions – which makes them very popular. The links of a Figaro chain are the same as a Gourmet chain but there is a longer connecting link between every one to five gourmet links. This type of jewelery originated in Italy and was named after the popular Italian opera The Marriage of Figaro. The Figarope is similar to the Figaro chain but with twisted links to create a woven rope effect.

Carat can refer to the quality or purity of gold – pure gold ie a metal that is 100% gold and nothing else but gold, is known as pure gold or 24-carat goldSo for example with a ring which is 18 carat ie 18/24s gold or put another way, 18 divided by 24 is 0.750 or 3/4You may see jewellery marked 0.750 which is a somewhat modern way of writing 18ct as we say in the UK and 18k as they say in the rest of the world. The colour of pure gold is yellow. However, if gold is mixed with other metals it can become a silvery colour, known as white gold, or pinky and is then known as rose gold

How to care for your beautiful antique earrings of garnet and gold : use soap, warm water and a soft toothbrush, then rinse under warm running water. Then the gold parts can be rubbed with a gold cleaning cloth.
