Turquoise

Of all the gemstones, turquoise is probably the one which is most closely associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement. Designers including C.R. Ashbee at the Guild of Handicraft. Also the great Archibald Knox for Liberty  Co. he produced many simple and uncomplicated gold and silver pendants and necklaces These were either mounted with gem turquoise or turquoise matrix – turquoise with natural veins of limonite rock left visible. Indeed, the Anglo-German firm Murrle Bennett & Co became famous for, and synonymous with turquoise matrix and gold jewellery, at the very end of the 19th century. Today turquoise matrix is produced in large and irregular shape pebble-like forms used in Navajo Indian and New Mexican silver jewellery.
